Film Finder Is BACK

A few years ago I started a film review blog, called film finder. As usual, I seem to have neglected it for a couple of those years. Today though, I return and I am giving it a re-birth of sorts.
I will be reviewing films of all sorts, both past and present, regularly. So, please, if you are in search of something new to watch, or find yourself curious of other peoples opinions towards certain films, come and take a look.

The link is HERE.

In other news, fret not, this blog here is not yet over. I will continue to post here little and often as I have been over the last few years. There are some exciting projects that I am working on at the moment to look forward to over the next year or so!

And to complete this post here are some road dancing photos of Hattie and I on the eve of my 20th birthday.

Hope you like.

Are you a Virgin?

Hello again, its been a while, as usual. But thats no bad thing.

Firstly since my last post, almost 6 months ago now, I have found a lovely collaborator for a new film (this gal: Claire)! All very exciting stuff, it is still in its writing stages as we speak, but over the next year or so we intend it to complete it.

In the mean time, I am also working on another project, which coincidentally, I am looking for more volunteers for. But this time I am calling all virgins, don't worry it is nothing scary, but I can't tell you the entire plan until your in, because you know, my idea aint copy-righted, and the internet is a big place! SO please comment if you are interested, I would be very grateful, and you will be being a part of a great thing.

To conclude I have some long over due snaps of my summer, a contrast of sunny Spain and not so sunny, but just as beautiful Scotland...

Hope you like.

p l a n t

As usual, it has been a while. I have just been living, you know how it is.

I have completed my art foundation course since I last posted; the photo above is my film poster for the film that I made for the final project. You can watch this here... P L A N T

The film is for sure my best so far, which I suppose is lucky because it would be pretty demoralising if I was getting worse! I got a distinction for it (yay) so that was nice.

Anyway in other news I would now like to consider myself a true aspiring film director. So consequently this blog will become more and more related to film, I would assume. Which is awesome fun so please stick around!

I am very much in holiday mode now and so am beginning summer projects. This entails the creation of another film, which probably, I need to write. So if anyone has any ideas for a story line I would so so SOOOO appreciate it if you would let me know. Also on this point I AM IN SEARCH FOR COLLABORATORS, maybe musicians who need a music video, or writers, or fashion designers, etc please comment below, or alternatively email me at: director@sophmay.com

Video Blog

Again, I am sorry about the appalling infrequency of my posts, but I think its a problem that most bloggers seem to have. So I feel no harm done! (hopefully)

So I am trying something new. I have decided to make a video blog on youtube. This is because my film making life/ career (eventually we hope) is becoming my actual life and so I am going to use my video blog to actively record the progress I go through to make my films, because its fun, and probably reasonably interesting (I hope). I mean you don't really notice HOW MUCH work goes into making even a 5 minuet short film until you make one! But don't get me wrong it is like the funnest most rewarding thing ever.

Basically I write, storyboard, design, film, even sometimes have brief acting moments, in my films. So naturally my video blog will be covering all of these things and so much more. I think it will be fun!

So head over to Seriously Wak Films and subscribe! (Because I would feel kind of stupid if I was talking to no one!)

Above is a photo of Daisy on set of my next movie, which will be released onto the internet very very soon!

Ps I will still be blogging about as frequently as I do now on here so don't fret.

Hope you like.

A Little Bit More.

Suddenly, but not suddenly at all the time left where I am now, is not so long. Today its raining, but on average the weather is picking up. I can feel my urge for adventure growing stronger by the day. We have visited many places, explored all the nooks and crannies of this small cornish town. The cliffs and bays and trees have been our retreat but at this point they have become too familiar.
Before we move on, begin the search further a field, I appreciate what we had/ have, it is and will be held for ever in these photos...

Birthday Extravaganza

So I may be wrong in thinking this but, now that I am 19 I think that I have officially exited childhood. This is actually quite sad; so far all I have ever known is my childhood, because (obviously) it is all I have ever lived! Now I am in this strange void of emptiness, which I suppose is just space which will be filled by the rest of my life. Its just strange because it is sort of like starting again, re-introducing yourself to the world, but this time it is more serious, and as each year passes I feel there will be less and less room for mistakes and discovery! A terrifying prospect.

So with this in mind, I started my new liberated 19 year old life with a good ol' trip out on the salty sea.

We used this (fake) go pro that I got for christmas all day and I turned it into a movie, so do watch...

Take 15.

I have this friend called Cecilia, she's like super cool, you know, she's like THE friend. Well I was with Cecilia on New Years Eve. We sat on the hay bails by the fire, midnight approaching fast. We discussed the coming year, and what we were going to achieve in it. It was such a powerful conversation, in the moment of it all I felt, given the chance I could do absolutely anything. We both felt that. We decided that this is our year, 2015, twenty fifteen, this is when it all happens for us. And I am so excited.

Below are some photos taken just after the conversation I mentioned perviously, the first photos of the year...

Ces and I dancing with the fire.

And what started as embers became Mount Vesuvius.

But the yurt continued to sit comfortably in the background.

And both man and fire breathed smoke into the night.

In the end all they could do was to watch form afar.

Happy New Year to each and everyone of you. Let it be great for you too. Please.

Hope you like.

In Black and White.

So it is nearing the end of term now. I can not even begin to tell you how excited I am to go home, like SO EXCITED! I mean Cornwall is nice but Yorkshire is just on another level of awesomeness! This time next week I will be embarking on my incredibly long (10 hours) train journey home!
Since I last posted I got my black and white film developed from the past month or so. The photos are taken in Falmouth, London and Berlin.

In other news I have officially specialised in film and am currently making a kick ass movie. I will put it on here for everyone to view when I have done it. But don't hesitate to get excited!

Hope you like.

The Cross Roads.

I have reached a turning point in both this art foundation course but also life. Today I had my assessment, which is basically when the tutors look at your art work and tell you what you are going to specialise in. So basically they tell you what you are going to spend, hopefully the rest of your life doing. SCARY!

So it would seem I am going to study film. WOOOOOOO!! This is actually so great, it was definitely what I was hoping for.

Oh also I have a fringe now! It was quite a spontaneous thing I was in my friend Zoë's room the other night and we just did it. It was very funny. Anyway so this is what I look like now...

(this fabulous photo was taken by Hattie in Berlin last week) not too sure what is going on with the curtain look...I am still working on getting rid of my parting!

So anyway I am pretty sure that I must have told you about my love of Marika Hackman sometime before, I have been learning her music on the guitar for over a year now. One day hopefully soon I will record some of it and you can listen to it, but for now lets just stick to the original. God she is great. So she brought out a new song this month which I LOVE so much. I think its my new fave...

Make sure you give that ^ a listen.

Hope you like.

Stop Motion Animation

I have been doing foundation for what feel like a while now, this is probably because we don't have half terms, which does kinda suck. But hey, life goes on. So today I spent 6 hours making a 7 second stop motion animation. Yes I know that seems REALLY short. But it does look cool. The aim was for everyone in the group to evolve a picture of themselves into and animal and then into the next person in the group so they could all be put together to make one long continuous reel. Pretty cool!

Anyway this is my animation check it out.... (somewhere in the middle it turns into a tortoise but you will miss it if you blink.)

Hope you like.

Falmouth.

This weekend I will have been at uni for a whole MONTH. This is madness! I am doing an art foundation course at Falmouth, which incase you don't know is in like south south SOUTH Cornwall, and so a million miles from home. It is a dream though, we live by the sea, we do art all the time, and it feels like the Bauhaus. My flat mates are awesome, so thats cool. Life is just generally good!
So here are some photos from the first few weeks, I swapped cameras with my mum to her film one, and the film must have been in there for at least 10 years, so the photos came out with some cool effects...

Our flat party for Georgia's birthday.

They froze our cutlery in a bowl of water...

California.

We all know the saying "The grass is greener on the other side" don't we. The only thing that differs from person to person is what a person perceives as "the other side". I think for me California was one of the things on the other side. It has been my dream for years to go there, to that land of sun and beauty, to fall in love and become the most awesome surfer chick there ever was. (I think I probably I shared this dream with the majority of english teens) but anyway this summer I left school. I was free. So what was the first thing I had to do on my new improved free life...go to California of course!

So off I went, jetting off from Heathrow on the 1st of July, parents weeping behind the barriers, my boiled sweets in hand.

I spent just under 2 months in the states. I visited LA, Idaho (Sun Valley), and San Francisco, in that order. I stayed with friends of friends, and spent most of my time sleeping on sofa's, carpets, floors and the occasional bed. And I had the time of my life.

So here you go, the visual diary of the summer...

(they are all jumbled up in order, the computer stressed out on me..)

The views on the flight were so incredible. I didn't sleep a wink.

The view from the apartment in San Fran...the day I arrived in the city. It was so beautiful.

This was the best day of my life so far...I went flying with a pilot in an old original ww2 plane over LA. If I had died in that moment I would have still felt my life was complete. I felt like the luckiest person on the planet.

We flew in formation with 3 other planes.

Me inside... (yes I had to wear a parachute, it was terrifying!)

Little Sophie.

Idaho, Sun Valley, breath taxingly beautiful.

The Family I stayed with in LA and Idaho. The were awesome.

Moi.

Moi again...feeling like the queen of the world.

The coolest record store ever...sorry about the graininess..couldn't miss it out.

My friend Parker at the Getty museum.

The famous In'n'out.

My old friend Lizzie, at the Marin Headlands, San Fran. Such an amazing day.

Lizzie and Me.

FIREWORKS on the 4th of July.

Lizzie again...in her awesome mini.

My new american friend Whitney..such a classic LA chick. Love her.

An amazing view over LA. We watched the fireworks over the whole city from here on the 4th of July.

Me being a tourist in Beverly Hills...it couldn't be missed.

The Mission District, San Fran.

The hollywood sign...although you can't really see it, it is there though!

Flashin' ma dollars...(they weren't even mine!)

City hall San Fran.

And of course the famous Golden Gate Bridge, San Fran.

So there you go...the trip of a life time.

Hope you like.
